Amalfi Coast coastline

The Mediterranean offers some of the world’s most rewarding yacht itineraries, but conditions and atmosphere change significantly by month and micro-region. Understanding the seasons helps you match dates to the experience you want.

Core Season Overview

May–June: Excellent weather in most areas, fewer crowds than midsummer, longer days, and generally strong availability. Water temperatures are still rising. Ideal for those who prefer quieter harbours.

July–August: Peak demand, highest rates and the liveliest social atmosphere. Water is warmest. Popular ports (Portofino, Capri, Mykonos, Saint-Tropez) are busy; quieter anchorages remain available with good local knowledge.

September–early October: Often considered the sweet spot by experienced charterers. Warm water, settled weather, reduced crowds and more competitive rates as the season winds down.

Regional Notes

French Riviera & Côte d’Azur: Highly popular July–August. May, June and September offer a more relaxed pace with still-excellent conditions.

Amalfi Coast & Capri: Spectacular but can feel congested in peak weeks. Early or late season rewards with clearer views and easier berthing.

Sardinia & Corsica: Outstanding for both scenery and a mix of quiet coves and stylish ports. July–August is peak; June and September are highly recommended.

Greek Islands: Long season. The Cyclades can be windier (Meltemi) in midsummer; the Ionian is generally calmer. Many guests prefer June or September for balance.

Croatia & Turkey: Strong mid-to-late season appeal, often with better value than the western Mediterranean at the same time of year.

Practical Advice

Book early for July–August if you have fixed dates or a specific yacht in mind. If flexibility exists, consider shoulder months for a more spacious experience and often better overall value. Always discuss wind patterns and typical conditions for your chosen region with your advisor and the yacht’s captain.
